Older tenants releasing equity
6th September 2019
12% of tenants who moved into new privately rented homes since the beginning of 2018, were previously living in the owner occupied sector.

Unsurprisingly, this percentage is much higher for older tenants. 36% of 50–60 year olds and 42% of over 60s were previously living in owner occupation before choosing to release equity and move into rented accommodation.
Meanwhile, almost half of moves (47%) were from tenants moving from other rented homes, either in the private or social sector.
Dataloft has recently acquired a new rental dataset which provides even greater opportunities for investigation into the private rented sector. Keep a look out for more in coming weeks.
