26th April 2021
Want to save money and the environment? Here are some great quick tips that you could be doing day-to-day to shave a little bit off your energy bill and save the planet.
- Unplug devices.
When you aren’t using a device or it is fully charged try not to forget to unplug it. This could be laptops or phones or even your microwave. Did you know that your microwave actually uses more energy displaying the time than it does heating up your food!
- Try using less water.
Some easy fixes to reduce your water consumption could be taking quick showers, using just the required amount of water while cooking, and turning off running taps when unused even for seconds.
- Lids on!
This is a super simple hack in everyday life to save energy consumption, by cooking with the lid you are making sure to lessen the cooking time and water usage significantly.
- Lights off.
Try to get into the habit of turning lights off when you leave a room. A household could save between £50 and £90 a year just by remembering to flick a switch.
- Washing clothes at lower temperatures.
Wash clothes at a cooler temperature and with a full load, you will be saving a lot of water and electricity.
- Leave it to air dry.
Hang up your laundry on a clothes horse or a washing line rather than tumble-drying it, particularly if the weather is warm or windy.
- Be careful with the heating.
Turning your heating down by just one degree can reduce your energy usage by as much as 10%! Always think about alternatives before you hike the heating up, maybe popping on an extra jumper?
- Invest in a washing-up bowl.
If you use a bowl to wash up rather than a running tap continuously it could save you £25 a year in energy bills!
