Unveiling of new Moulsecoomb sculpture

A sculpture created by Bruce Williams (creator of the Kiss Wall on Brighton seafront) has been unveiled outside Hillfort House in Moulsecoomb.

The sculpture features the names of 560 people connected to the area; including names of boxers, teachers, performers, children, and even two cats, with every name being connected to the on prior.

Many names included used their own handwriting to make it a more personal touch to a wonderful community project.

The outlines of people in the structure originate from pictures of volunteers in the community, that was taken at the Friday Friends Club in The Bevy, Moulsecoomb Community Market & Moulsecoomb Primary School.

Commenting on the community aspect of the project, Williams told The Argus ‘All the names, all different, all pressed up against each other, supporting each other – all in one big curve, like the arches of the viaduct and like one big hug.’

The sculpture was commissioned by McLaren Property alongside its Hillfort House development. The 380-bed student housing block is opening next month.
