Why Renting is Becoming a Long-Term Choice – Putting Down Roots

Renting is no longer just a stepping stone to homeownership – for many, it’s becoming a long-term lifestyle choice. More and more renters are putting down roots, transforming their rental properties into true homes, and embracing the flexibility that renting offers.

According to the Property Academy Survey 2024, a quarter of renters are now choosing to rent rather than feeling forced into it. Additionally, 25% of renters anticipate staying in rental accommodation for more than five years. This shift in renter behaviour is shaping the way landlords approach their properties, leading to more collaborative and positive relationships between tenants and property owners.

A Shift in the Renting Experience

Gone are the days when renting meant living in a space that felt temporary and impersonal. With landlords increasingly open to tenants decorating their homes and having discussions about renovations, rental properties are becoming places where people can truly settle in.

Building positive relationships between landlords and renters leads to a win-win situation for everyone involved. When tenants feel at home, they are more likely to stay longer, reducing turnover and ensuring rental income remains steady. Meanwhile, landlords benefit from a well-maintained property, as engaged tenants are more likely to take care of their space.

That’s why open conversations between landlords and tenants about decorating, repairs, and long-term plans for the property are becoming more important. A little flexibility can go a long way in creating happy, long-term tenancies.

Celebrating Brighton’s Vibrant Rental Market

Brighton is known for its colourful and welcoming atmosphere, and this is reflected in its rental market. From uniquely decorated homes to charming period properties, renters and landlords alike contribute to the city’s vibrant character. Rental properties are no longer just places to live – they are homes that reflect the individuality and creativity of those who live in them.

At Coapt, we love working closely with both tenants and landlords to ensure that everyone is happy in their home and investment. By fostering strong relationships, we help create homes that tenants love while also assisting landlords in reducing void periods and unexpected maintenance costs. We’re proud to be part of Brighton’s rental community and to share resources that help make renting a positive experience for all.
