6 Things to Think About Before House Hunting

We’re in the middle of fresher’s week and the Uni year has just started. It might feel strange to already be thinking about next year’s accommodation…

BUT, next year’s houses will go on the market in only a few weeks’ time and the house hunt will officially have begun. To make sure that you secure the accommodation of your dreams before someone else does… here’s 6 things to think about to be best

prepared!

How Many Bedrooms

It might seem straight forward but it can get tricky quickly. Who do you want to share a house with next year?

Is it your current housemates or maybe some new Uni friends from your course? At the end of they day you will be around them almost 24/7… Are they as clean/messy as you? The more the merrier, or do you prefer a smaller house share?

Decide on the number of bedrooms needed so you can start booking viewings as soon as the properties go online.

How Many Bathrooms

Is the goal to have an en-suite each? Two housemates per one bathroom? Or is one shower for the whole house enough?

The number of bathrooms compared to the number of bedrooms in a house can differ, but it is good to get a clear idea of what needs you will have as a group.

Determine what your minimum requirement is and avoid a long queue for the shower in the morning.

Location

What is most important to you and your housemates?

Perhaps a house near your regular café so you can have a study session with your favourite matcha every day. Or a house near campus for the ultimate lie ins and no bus fares.

Living near the bus stop or train station will be good for quick travel but might be loud and busy.

Figure out your ideal area of Brighton & Hove and get your property search ready to filter by your favourites!

Storage, Furniture, and White Goods

Are you a campus fashionista in need of a big wardrobe, a reader looking for the best bookshelves, or the number one meal prepper demanding a big freezer?

It is time to figure out what storage, furniture and white goods etc. you will need in your next home. Do you want it fully furnished, or maybe just a bed allowing you to bring your own furniture. Do you want a washing machine, fridge/freezer, dishwasher?

Deciding on what is a want and what is a need will help you and us to narrow it down to your perfect home.

We recently teamed up with shabitat on Lewes Rd to give our tenants 20% off on Sundays! Just show your Coapt emails or tenancy agreement to claim!

Budgets and Deposits

The most debated question in the whole process, what is your budget? Think about your other monthly costs as well such as bills, transportation, etc.

Perhaps a bills included package could be great for your tenancy? Our packages include Electricity, Gas, Water and Superfast Broadband; no unexpected bills or price increases!

Would you like a deposit or zero-deposit scheme? The differences in outgoing costs between traditional deposits and zero-deposit schemes are actually very little!

Determine a max budget, and filter through your possible homes until you find the one.

Early Bird List

Have you and your housemates signed up to the early bird list?

On November 1st all student properties go live, and you want to be the first to know about it! Sign up today and get ready to secure your dream home in just a few weeks. Don’t miss out!
